ITEC Diploma in Aromatherapy
February 23rd, 2010What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote health and well-being. The oils derive from flowers, leaves, plants and trees. The therapeutic use of plants and their oils can be traced back for millennia. There are many ways of using oils beneficially. These include: baths, compresses, inhalations and vaporisation. However, the main use is through massage whereby the oils are absorbed through the skin. Using oils safely is a complex art that requires in-depth training.
Aromatherapy as a Career
Aromatherapy has become increasingly popular with the general public and is now one of the most sought after forms of natural health care. Increasingly it is being used in hospitals, clinics, and as a complement to orthodox medicine. Using the right Aromatherapy essential oil in the right way is a great way to change your mood, help concentration and memory, and assist in the healing process. Essential oils are readily available to all, but can have very powerful effects, so using them safely is vital.
This exciting post-graduate course will increase and develop your massage skills further by incorporating the use of essential oils into your practice. You will enhance your massage repertoire and learn about the therapeutic healing properties of the essential oils and also their safe usage.
We will be looking at the history and origins of aromatherapy, the extraction processes and botanical origins of the oils. We will look at blending the oils after consultation with the patient to provide an individual treatment.
This course can be taken alongside the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage which includes Anatomy and Physiology and Professional Conduct and Business Awareness.
Essential Oils
You will learn about 42 essential oils, their therapeutic effects and contraindications. You will need to purchase a set of oils for yourself – you will be advised of this on application.
